Weed Igloo

20 04 2015

It’s been a snowy winter for most of us in the US, but some Utah college students used all that white stuff to their advantage…for a little while anyway.

Four University of Utah students were busted in January when they decided to use a hidden snow igloo to smoke marijuana on campus.

The students either constructed or found an abandoned igloo that had walls 10 inches thick and was about four feet tall in the woods in the Red Butte Creek area between resident housing and Research Park.

The igloo, which was large enough to hold four men, was pretty well camouflaged, but a campus security guard was passing by the area in late January and heard some noises, walked over and discovered the igloo and the men inside. Apparently, the guard smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and when he poked his head through the igloo door, he found four students inside smoking up.

One of the students was cited with marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession. All were referred to campus officials to determine what punishment was sufficient for being caught smoking marijuana on campus, Smith said.
